Sophie Jacobson is a postdoctoral fellow with the Consortium on the American Political Economy based at Columbia University. She was previously a fellow with the Inequality in America Initiative at Harvard University (2021-2023) and received a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in December 2021.
Sophie's research investigates the political causes and consequences of inequality in the United States, particularly how decentralized governance concentrates disadvantage by gender, race, and place. Her work draws on wide-ranging methodological approaches, combining historical/archival methods and interviews with a versatile, microtargeted method for opinion panels that track change in policy-affected citizens’ experiences of American democracy.
